NOGTECH 1st Cohort: All that happened in the first week of Incubation

October 12, 2020, marked the very beginning of the NOGTECH Incubation Programme. This is coming after the winners have been selected from 15 finalists who made the hackathon that took place in Lagos State.

The incubation, which will span across three months has been categorised into phase; the induction week (starting October), the immersion week (starting November), and the graduation week (happening in December). All of which culminates in a Demo Day, where the winning startups will display their innovations before a seasoned panel, as well as stakeholders in the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry.

Five mentors took the winning startups on the induction ride. They include;

  • Idong Akpan: a facilitator in oil and gas technology
  • Oluwole Akinpelu: a 3D Printing Expert who took the startups on the semantics of hardware technology
  • Kayode Oyewole: a Venture Capitalist who ran through the basics and fundamentals of investors funding
  • Chioma Ifeanyi-Eze:
  • Victoria Crandal: a PR and Communications Strategists based in Lagos; who demystified the rudiments of PR and Communications, as well as their intersection with marketing

DAY 1 — Finding the fit in Oil & Gas

The first day began with Akpan Idong. Arriving at the session room, Odiong took the teams on a ride through the oil and gas industry and how they can begin finding a fit for their solutions in the space.

DAY 2 — Hardware and Printing

The second day started as light as the first day. After a round of breakfast, founders of the various startups settled down with eagerness to learn from their facilitator. Akinpelu Oluwole soon joined in and conversation rounds began in earnest.

DAY 3 — Venture funding

Day three was quite an exciting one for the businesses. And this excitement, of course, is due to an obvious reason — its time to talk about the money. Kayode Oyewole had flown in a day earlier from Lagos State and was more than eager to indulge the excited team members. As a seasoned investor and a partner at the Ventures Platform, Lagos,

If we placed the fourth day as the “day of numbers and figures”, we wouldn’t go wrong in any case.

DAY 5 — PR & Comms

The final day in the induction phase of the incubation was as relishing as it was informative. This time, the facilitator, Victoria Crandall took a different spin to engage the startups over Zoom.
